You need to upgrade your D2 patch version to 1.13d in order to use C3PO.
Just connect to any bnet gateway with original D2 (without C3PO) to get your D2 upgraded.

The only way to figure out if you have the latest version or not is to connect to one of the Blizzard bnet gateway with original D2.

And also make sure that no other program (such as viruses or anti-viruses) is compromising C3PO components modules in memory.
